Composition and Dance Technique
“Matrix”, a multi-layered and pluri-dimensional view on dance and dance making,
will be the encompassing concept of this class.
The workshop can either be a follow up of the technique class or be seen as an independent
course.
Students will be invited to plunge into the Matrix, an Open Form Composition,
where both set materials and improvisatory modes merge.
As the workshop develops students might wish to create their own Matrices.
Technique
“Sequencing”deals primarily with strengthening the deeper musculature of the body
both in the vertical as well as in the horizontal positioning of the
spine.
The language used to describe the body in movement and its codification is based
on anatomical release imagery and functional anatomy.
The class begins with a series of simple patterns that gradually grow in complexity
and speed, climaxing with long and spatial patterns of movement.
It is in the zone of transitions that the kinetic power of this class emerges
to the fullest.
